1978 — Ghana's Third AFCON Crown
On March 16, 1978, Ghana's Black Stars beat Uganda two-nil in the African Cup of Nations final at a packed Accra Sports Stadium, lifting the continental trophy on home soil. Both goals came from Asante Kotoko striker Opoku Afriyie, whose brace sealed the win and the tournament's golden boot.
With titles in 1963, 1965, and 1978, Ghana became the first nation ever to win the African Cup three times, keeping the original trophy forever under the old rules. A fourth crown followed in 1982, but no Ghana team has lifted it since, which makes that home triumph in Accra shine only brighter in memory.
